KATHMANDU, NEPAL – July 14, 2025 – In a bold leap forward for aerial logistics, YakPak Drones, Inc., the world's first drone-based livestock delivery startup, announced today the successful delivery of its first herd of yaks—yes, actual yaks—to Mount Everest Base Camp via autonomous drone fleet.
In a statement that left even seasoned climbers scratching their ice-chapped heads, YakPak's CEO and former llama-wrangling tech mogul, Skyler "Buzz" Thunderloop, declared:
"Instead of using yaks to deliver supplies to Mount Everest base camp, a new drone company is skipping the supplies and delivering yaks, by drone, to Mount Everest base camp."
Thunderloop elaborated, "We asked ourselves, Why burden yaks with cargo when we can burden cargo drones with yaks? And the answer, as always, was innovation. Also: venture capital."
How It Works
Each yak is outfitted with a complimentary heated flight helmet, noise-canceling earmuffs, and an emotional support goat for in-flight companionship. The drone fleet, called the HoverHeard™, uses AI-powered hooves-on-logic navigation to fly a full-sized yak from Lukla Airport to Base Camp in just under 17 minutes—weather permitting, altitude forgiving, and yak willing.
"The real challenge wasn't the flight path," said Dr. Beverly Clompers, Chief Yak Aerodynamics Officer. "It was convincing yaks to board a quadrotor aircraft without chewing through the propellers. But once we installed hay-scented upholstery, uptake increased by 300%."
A New Era of Beast-Based Innovation
Mountaineering logistics are now entering what Thunderloop calls the "post-yakpack economy," where traditional beasts of burden are no longer burdened—just airlifted.
"We're freeing yaks from the tyranny of trudging," said Thunderloop. "For too long, yaks have been stuck in analog terrain. We are digitizing the beast."
YakPak's clients include elite climbers, boutique expedition companies, and one eccentric billionaire attempting to establish the world's highest altitude yak café. Early reviews from sherpas have been mixed:
"We appreciate the gesture," said Dawa Phurba Sherpa. "But next time, maybe send both the yaks and the supplies."
Coming Soon: Return Flights
YakPak is currently piloting (literally) its ReYak™ program, which will allow climbers to book round-trip yak journeys—including a yak-seat upgrade with extra legroom for especially large yaks. The company is also exploring new markets, including llama drops into Machu Picchu and moose deliveries to remote Alaskan igloo communes.
